Greetings Parents,
On Monday, June 1st, our students will be celebrating their writing for the year. We are extending a formal invitation to all parents, or a special adult, to attend our Open House at 11:00 am in our classroom. Each student will have a writing piece or two to share, and will take their adult on a tour of the school to see other’s writing. We would love to see as many parents as possible on Monday, June 1 at 11:00 am in our classroom for this special time!
Wow! What a great way to end our “Just Write” Celebration by holding a school-wide assembly honoring our great readers and writers! Two very important people from our class were honored today! The first was Milena S. as she has been logged in for reading 2 MILLION words!!! Way to go Milena!! We are so proud of you!!
The next honor goes to Brycen K for writing a super-cool story called “The Snowboarding Trip”! He got to sit on the special “Writer’s Throne” while the second grade teachers acted his story out in a skit! Way to go to you, Brycen! We are so proud of you, too!! And to all parents who attended our writing celebration on Thursday, I send a big THANKS FOR COMING your way! It means a lot to your students and to me, too.
Parents, these children have all grown SO MUCH in all of their skills academically, and I feel honored to be the one to witness it first-hand on a daily basis! Thanks for sending me such great kids with amazing skills and capabilities! It has been one FABULOUS year!!

Just a quick announcement to save the date of May 15th for our Just Write Celebration up here at school! Parents are invited to come to school from 10:30-11:30 that day to tour the school and read some of the writing from our fantastic elementary writers!!
I can hardly believe that we are already almost halfway through May! Only a few short precious days before school will be at its end for this year. I have so enjoyed working with your children! Each and every one of them is such a delight to know, love, and learn with!
A few upcoming activities to note:
*This Tuesday, May 15th, is our field trip to Pell Greenhouse to learn all about plants, their parts, and how they grow. All parents are invited, but must drive separately. Thanks!
*This Thursday, May 17th, is our Just Write Celebration for second grade! Our writings are up and on display for everyone to see our hard work. Mr. Ceglarek is coming to be our special guest!
*Monday, May 28th, is Memorial Day – no school.
*Friday, June 8th, is last day of school.
We have a lot of rap-up activities going on right now! Please be sure to send extra snacks with your students for nourishment, and getting to bed ontime is important too! I know families have so many spring activities and are very busy this time of year. Sticking to routines will be very helpful for your child in finishing out the year. And one last thing! I know I have said this before, but please be sure to read with your child over the summer! It is so important and will help them to not regress with their reading skills!

Our class is preparing for our big writing celebration at Georgetown. The celebration will take place the week of May 14-18, 2012. This is a huge celebration of our year long work in writing with student and staff stories covering every bit of space in our hallways and classrooms.
Many children like to wear our special JUST WRITE shirt for this celebration. If you would like to get one for your child, the cost is $15.00. An order form can be printed off and sent in from the blog (link below). Paper order forms will arrive home this week for all youngest and only building reps.
Wow! What a great week we just finished up! We had our fifth annual “Just Write” Celebration! Lots of great writing everywhere! The teachers had a ball acting out a story written by Sara Spears in Mrs. Kuieck’s class! It is so fun and amazing to see the progress we have made throughout the year! Here are a few more pictures!

Our very important celebration of our year long work in writing takes place next week – May 24-28. Our class will tour parents and important visitors on:
May 24th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Everywhere you look, descriptive and rich and meaningful words will be displayed on: lockers, walls, windows, and doorways. Our published books from this year and year’s past will be on display in the rotunda.

If you haven’t heard, one of the most important all school celebrations is fast approaching! The week of May 24-28 is our opportunity to recognize all the writers in our school!
The week is organized into grade level celebrations which include tours of locker stories, tours of posted poster stories displayed throughout the building, and a scavenger hunt. Parents and special guests are invited to attend these events. Our grade level will be celebrating on May 24th, at 1:00 p.m. Please report to our classroom at that time. We will talk through the tour schedule, appropriate behavior and then begin the tour.
In addition to the tours of student writing pieces (displayed on lockers) and specially selected poster stories on display throughout the hallways, the rotunda will also be filled with published classroom anthologies. We will be publishing a class anthology to lulu.com. Once the publication is complete, I will share the link so you can download a free copy or order a professional copy.
We also have a tradition of wearing special designed Just Write T-Shirts on that day. If you would like to purchase one for your child, you can download the order form and send this into the office. Just Write T-Shirt Order Form Orders are accepted now through May 5.
