Writing Celebrations!!

Parents,

I am so proud of your children and their writing abilities!!  You would not believe how much they are improving!  So we had a “toast” to celebrate how much we’ve grown and how we hope to continue becoming the best writers we can!  This is what our top picture is about – our toast!  We have also invited the first graders to our “All About Museum” where we shared our All About Books with them.  We are now studying different authors to see what they do in their writing and to see what we can learn from them to implement it in our writing.  We are now going to try to live “writerly lives”!

Our First Writers’ Celebration

IMG_1061This past Friday (11/6), we had our first Writers’ Celebration.  The students and I celebrated the milestones they have already made in writing for the year.  Many gains were celebrated since the beginning of second grade.  Periods and capitals are starting to show up!  Book spelling is becoming more of the norm!  Revision is taking place, as well as, good beginnings and solid endings.  Students are using much more detail and talking more about feelings as opposed to just making a “list” of what happened.  It is really exciting to watch this class BLOOM!!!  Mr. Bowen’s third graders came down to share our exuberance and to offer up suggestions to our eager second graders from his really wise third graders!  🙂  It was an awesome celebration!
