2 G SUMMARY ! 2/3/12

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in second grade!  We are all starting to tell time ACCURATELY on analog clocks!  THAT is exciting!  Another exciting detail is that we recently re-tested for Reading Counts and every student has gone up in reading levels!!  Like I said, I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!  🙂

Some really fun things are coming up for us!  First, is the Valentine’s Party!  It will be held on Feb. 14th from 2-3 p.m.  Valentines can be sent in to school starting this week. See an earlier blog posting if you need the names in our classroom.

Another exciting thing is that for social studies, we are planning to vote on an activity to do for our school as a community project.  Lots of ideas have been flowing and we’ll let you know what we have decided.

Finally, we will be getting ready for Market Day soon, in which, second graders develop and produce a product to sell as part of our economics unit!  We plan to use recyclables in our projects as a way of doing another service for our community!  So moms and dads, please save your toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, and plastic containers that look like they may have some good use!  Send them into school, and we will begin to accumulate some raw materials from which we will construct our projects!

Last of all, parent – teacher conferences are coming up again on Feb. 27, 28, and 29!  We will be using the same schedule that we used in the fall.  Watch your child’s mail coming home as I will put in a reminder slip for the day and time to meet.  If any conflicts arise, be sure to let me know as soon as possible!  We’ll make the necessary changes.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead!  Love, Mrs. Q

2 G Summary – 11/6/11

Wow!  I am a bit behind!  Sorry about that parents!  I have been diligently working away on report cards and conference materials, and totally forgot to post on the blog!  So here I am to catch up!

First of all, a reminder that parent-teacher conferences start tomorrow!  I am really looking forward to meeting with all of you and talking about the progress of your student!  Report cards come home with your student tomorrow as well.  So you may want to grab it from your child’s backpack before you head up here to meet with me.  I would like to re-use the envelope that it comes home in, so if you would please just return only the envelope, I would appreciate it!

A big thank you to all of the parents who planned and prepared such a nice Halloween party for us!  The kids had a great time!  Here are a few pictures to check out:

Next, just an FYI that our first Reading Counts trimester ends on November 22.  I have gone over the reports with all of the students and we are working hard on passing our goals!  I have promised to treat the kids to a pizza party if EVERYONE makes their goal.  So please remind your reader to keep on reading away!!!

Finally, the Book Fair starts tomorrow.  We will be previewing the books and then buying on Thursday.  The Fair may also be open for shopping during the conferences.  It is a great way to encourage reading, proceeds help the school, and Scholastic does a wonderful job of supporting our schools.  So thanks for checking it out.  Maybe even get a little Christmas shopping done too!  🙂

Hope you have a great week!  Love – Mrs. Q
