2 Q Update!

Hi Everyone!

It will be a wonderful 2 weeks here before Christmas break!  We have a few exciting things coming up!  Everything from snow cones to Diversity Day, another writing celebration and holiday party!!  I love this time of year!  The children’s energy is charged with anticipation.

Just a couple of things to be aware of:

1.  Many students are complaining that their gym shoes are too small and don’t want to wear them to gym.  Unfortunately, this poses a safety issue for the gym teachers, as once the floor has lots of mud and dirt on it, it becomes very unsafe to run around on and students slip, fall down, and get hurt.  We would like to ask you to please replace their tennis shoes with larger ones that they may keep in their lockers.  If your family is struggling with financial hardship right now, please let us know and we will find a way to provide shoes for your child.  Thank you!

Your student is writing an “All About” book right now and may ask to bring something in for our next Writing Celebration on Dec. 20th.  We are putting on a “All About Museum” for the first graders and they may want something for their exhibit.  The students will mainly be teaching the first graders from their books and this is purely “optional” to have something to go along with their books.  All live animals would have to be checked out with me, and possibly accompanied by an adult.  🙂  Please remember this is purely optional!  A stuffed animal is perfect too!!  lol

Unit 3 in math is all about measuring.  If you need a centimeter ruler at home, let us know, we do have some paper ones to send home.  We are learning the difference between centimeters and inches.  🙂

This week we are on Unit 11 for spelling.  Remember all words can be found here on the blog under the spelling tab.  Next week (Dec. 17th), we will not have spelling words, we will just review all words we’ve had thus far.  We will not have a homework packet next week either.  My gift to you!!

And last of all, our Holiday Party will be Friday, Dec. 21st at 12:40 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.  Let me know if anyone needs help with Christmas stocking items.  I will surely be glad to help!

I am so grateful for these beautiful children you entrust in my care every week!  I wish everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!   Love, Mrs. Q

2 G Summary! 11/28/11

Hi Parents and Students!

Hope this note finds everyone recuperating from all that turkey!!  Just a couple of updates for this next week!  The first one is that we shop Santa’s Secret Shop on this Wednesday, Nov. 30th.  Please be sure your student has their money envelope here at school that day if they are buying their presents.

The second announcement is that EVERYONE made their Reading Counts goals for this first trimester!!  Soooo, that means . . . PIZZA PARTY!  We will be enjoying our pizza this Friday, Dec. 2!  Your student will not need a lunch that day unless they do not like pizza!  I will have cheese and pepperoni pizza available, as well as drinks and some cookies for dessert.  Way to go everyone!  I am so proud of you!  We now start over with new goals for this next trimester!  We are taking the Reading Counts screener to see if we have moved up levels as well.

Which brings me to another announcement.  No library at all this week, due to Santa’s Secret Shop.  We can read books from home and quiz on those, and we can also read our classroom books and take quizzes.   So we will have to make it work with what we have.

Finally, don’t forget about our Holiday Concert this Thursday night at Fairhaven Reformed Church.  Our program for second grade begins at 6 p.m.  Children need to be there at 5:45.  Follow directions at the church for where your student’s room is to drop them off.  Can’t wait to see all of my beautiful and handsome students dressed in their Christmas best!!

Here’s to a great couple of weeks before Christmas!!  Love, Mrs. Q

2 G Summary – 11/13/11

Parents,

It was so great to meet with all of you last week!  Thank you for your positive comments.  I feel it is so important that we work together as a team to provide the best education we possibly can for your student.  Thank you for sending me such great kids! Each and every one of them is special!

Just a few notes for events coming up.  First of all, Thanksgiving week we only have 2 days of school, so there will be NO HOMEWORK THAT WEEK!  I know all of my students are crying about this right now, but tell them it will be ok!  🙂

The week after that, we shop Santa’s Secret Shop!  I believe on Wednesday, Nov. 30th.  I know that it is a little early and it will be hard to keep those secrets for so long, but we’ll have to do it!  🙂

Thursday, Dec. 1, will be our Holiday Program at Fairhaven Reformed Church.  Our program will begin at 6 p.m.  Usually, children need to be there by 5:30 or so.  Keep a watch on the Georgetown Blog and I will update as well.

Friday, December 16th, will be our Holiday Party here at school.  What has been very successful as a gift exchange, is for each parent to shop the dollar store and buy 25 of some little gift (erasers, pencils, stickers, etc.) totalling no more than 5$.  We make Christmas bags here at school, and students drop their little gifts into each bag.  This way each student will have fun discovering what little goodies have been dropped into their bags.  And this should be very cost-effective for parents too.  Please let me know if anyone needs help with this, because I would be willing to take care of it for you.

Last of all, I just want to say as we get ready to go into a very special time of year, that I wish each and every one of you a very blessed holiday season!

With love,     Mrs. Q
