OUTDOOR DISCOVERY CENTER FIELD TRIP

Our field trip this morning was quite the adventure! When we first got there Mr. Doug greeted us and we went into a building where we got to see taxidermy and live animals. Then the students got to make landforms out of Playdough and show off their knowledge they learned in the classroom!

The weather cleared up for a bit and we got to go outside. The students played on the playground for a little bit and then we took a nature walk on the trails led by Mr. Doug. Our second graders are quite the investigators! They discovered many wild plants and seeds which Mr. Doug was able to tell us a lot about. We learned where plants can grow and how they live.

Just as we were starting to finish up our walk it started to rain again and we headed back home. All in all it was a great trip and the children had so much fun learning and having real life experiences in nature! Thanks to all the parents that were able to come and we missed the ones that couldn’t!

Outdoor Discovery Center Field Trip! April 26

TN_environment_12Our second grade students will be venturing to Outdoor Discovery Center on April 26th, to explore plants, water habitats, and landforms!  The cost is $1.00 for each child, as our amazing ptc is picking up the rest of the cost.  This money is due by April 21.  Your child will need a sack lunch and should be dressed for the weather as we will be outside most of the day.  We will leave from school at 9 a.m. and return to school by 2 p.m.

Parents are welcome to come with us and should notify Mrs. Q with the bottom of the purple form that was sent home or by emailing her.  We look forward to this wonderful field trip!  It’s going to be another great day of learning!

Our Field Trip to the Gardens!

We had a great day for our field trip on Monday!  The weather cooperated and we learned alot about plants!  First we attended a class on plant parts and what each part does for the plant.  Next, we toured 3 different gardens – arid, carnivorous, and the main conservatory, where we saw and learned about many species of plants and what was unique about them.  Finally, we had a ball in the children’s garden where there was much to do and play with!  Check out our pictures, thanks to Chloe’s mom because Mrs. Q forgot her camera!

Upcoming Field Trip!!

TN_CRT8a_9_08_460On Monday, May 17th, we will be going to the Frederick Meijer Gardens to learn about plants (our final science unit!). All parents are invited to attend, however, I will need 3 parents to attend as chaperones and be in charge of a group of children. Fortunately, your admission will only be $3.00! If you are interested in chaperoning and riding the bus with us :), please send me a note via your child’s daily agenda. All other parents will be asked to drive themselves and the admission fee will be $7.00. Students will be asked to pay $5.00 to attend. Please let me know if there is anyone who would have a problem paying the fee. I will work it out. 🙂 Money can be sent in any time between now and May 12th. Please email me if any questions! lquigley@hpseagles.net
