Pizza Hut Reading Program!

PizzaCalendars are going home this week for the Book It Pizza Hut Reading Program.   The BOOK IT! Program is all about turning kids who read because they have to, into kids who read because they WANT to. Through BOOK IT!, your child has the opportunity to earn a certificate for a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut by filling out this calendar and by meeting monthly reading goals that are set.  Return this calendar at the end of the month to receive this certificate.  There is no purchase necessary and the pizza can be taken to go.  The goal we have set for fourth grade is to read at least 30 minutes a day.
HAPPY READING!!

Raz Kids Ready to Go!!

Screen Shot 2013-10-08 at 3.42.02 PMThe Raz-Kids site is set up and ready to go this year, everyone!  The log-in for our class is lquigleyb. Please make sure to write this down somewhere that is easily accessible for your second grader.  Every Raz-Kids quiz that your student passes with 100%, counts towards their Reading Counts goal as well!  Their time on the computer reading also counts towards their 15 minutes a night on their Book It calendars.  This just provides one more way for your second grader to enrich their reading practice!  So keep on reading everyone!!  -Mrs. Q

It’s Back to School – Only 9 Weeks Left!!

Hi Everyone!

Hope your Spring Break was terrific!  Mine was great!  My husband and I hiked Superstition Mountain in Arizona!  For three days, we hiked in the area known as the Superstition Wilderness and had a great time!  I climbed to the top of this mountain!

So as our next science unit begins on Landforms, I will have plenty to share about that!!  I sure hope that everyone had a restful break and is now ready to come back to school and wrap up the year!  I can hardly believe that we have so little time left.  And we have a lot we have to do yet!

Parents, we will be taking a field trip on Thursday, May 9, from 9 – 11:00 am approximately.  We are going to DeGraaf Nature Center for their wildflower class!  I will be picking a few parent chaperones to ride the bus, however, I am sure that if you want to drive yourself, that will not be a problem!  I will ask you to leave other siblings at home so that this will be a special time for you and your child.  A form will be coming home in a week or so to ask if you would like to chaperone!

Our math unit will continue to get more challenging for students as we get into triple digit addition and subtraction.  Most students now understand the re-grouping and un-grouping concepts and can hopefully see that they just keep on going across the problem to add or subtract.  Any extra help at home is so appreciated, as well as, checking over the homework packets to see if your child has done it correctly.  That will give you instant feedback as to where their misunderstandings are.

Reading Counts will wrap up in mid-May and so will Chapter Book Club.  We will no longer have any more Book It calendars (ends at the end of March).  Please, please keep reading with your children!  This is so important, especially over the summer.  Also, now is the time to arrange for a tutor if you haven’t already done so (if you feel your child may need the extra help).  In a previous post, I listed the teachers available for tutoring.  If you can’t find it, shoot me an email.

It’s wonderful to hear the birds singing to us on our way into school now!  I am really looking forward to spring and the warmer weather!  The kids and I will make the most of it!

Happy Spring!   Love, Mrs. Q

Book It Reading Program Begins in October!!

We are about to begin the BOOK IT! Program that is sponsored by Pizza Hut again this year.  The program runs from October through March.  The BOOK IT! Program is all about turning kids who read because they HAVE to into kids who read because they WANT to.  Your child should be bringing home a BOOK IT! calendar soon to track their minutes each month starting October 1.  Once they have met their monthly reading goal just return the calendar to school and your child will receive a reading award certificate that can be redeemed at any Pizza Hut restaurant.  This reading program has been in elementary schools now for more than 27 years.  To learn more, please visit bookitprogram.com/parents.

I hope you will join us and encourage your child to “read their heart out”.  THANK YOU!!!

Pizza Hut Book It Calendars!

October 1 is the start of our 2011-2012 Pizza Hut Book-it program.  This program runs from October, 2011 thru March, 2012.  Your child should be bringing home a calendar to keep track of their reading minutes.  This calendar has a goal on it.  At the end of the month, when they have reached their goal please send the signed calendar back to school and in return they will receive a coupon for a FREE Personal Pan Pizza to be used at any Pizza Hut with no other purchase necessary.  Please direct ALL questions to Mrs. VandenBerg (our School Librarian) at jvandenb@hpseagles.net.  Thank You!

Parents, we will use the Book It calendar instead of the calendar I sent home in your child’s Reading Counts baggy.  Just fill it in the same way and send it back to school at the start of the new month.  Your child will receive a Pizza Hut coupon for a free personal pan pizza and a treat from Mrs. Q!  Keep reading everybody!!!!

PS.  I will be looking for the yellow September calendar on Monday (10/3/11)!

Book It Calendars Have Ended

tn_boyreadinginbeds111Hi Everyone!  Just a quick update to let you know that Book It Calendars ended as of March!  So there will be no more calendars coming home to record nightly reading on for pizza coupons.  Just a reminder that you can read for free Whitecaps tickets!  A bookmark was sent home weeks ago to record reading times on as well.  Keep on reading and get to a Whitecaps game for free!
